This small oil painting was inspired by our hike down to the ocean on the Tennessee Valley Trail in California. The day was pure magic and I can hardly wait to go back.
Atomic Tiki - 22"x30" watercolor by Victoria Kloch - 2017
This piece of retro mania is a mid century style watercolor on 300 lb. weight watercolor paper. I used my favorite watercolor Prussian blue and black ink to frame the geometric shapes. This piece as deckled torn edges and would look really cool placed under glass on top of the background board framing to show off the edges of this beautiful watercolor paper.
A Sandy Path - 8"x10" oil painting by Victoria Kloch
The beaches along the coast of California are breathtaking. This sandy trail in Pescadero was lined with wind swept tall grasses that I could not resist painting.
Tower - 24"x36" - acrylic on canvas abstract painting by Victoria Kloch - Sold
When I started to paint this piece I had nothing in mind other than my color palette. These colors aren't my usual colors, but I had a lot of paint left over from a previous commission. With a lot of layering and a bit of this and that I created 'Tower'. It ended up having some very cool textures and layering. Happy to say it found a home soon after.
Autumn Lights - 9"x12" watercolor with gold ink by Victoria Kloch - Sold
I've been going through some of my older pieces and I came across Autumn Lights. I forgot how much I liked this one. I have some beautiful large watercolor paper waiting for a project. I think it's calling my name and requesting something like this.
Purple Haze 16"x24" landscape color field abstract by Victoria Kloch - Sold
This painting was in inspired from another hike in Sunol many years ago. We had spent the whole day exploring the hills and by the time we started to head back the sky was starting to change. From where we were, the light was moving behind the trees cooling us from the heat of the day. As we looked up into the vista the view was breathtaking to my eyes where the sky in the far off distance now had a bluish lavender glow.
Art washes away from the soul the dust of every day life.
_ Pablo Picasso
I drew this illustration for a friend on his birthday. It has many personal symbolic meanings for him and his family that I hope will become even more endearing as time goes by.

'Mirage' an original color field painting by Victoria Kloch
Mirage was painted with yellow, white and gray acrylic on raw canvas. I was very happy with this method of painting. This technique is called stain painting and was discovered by Helen Frankenthaler.
This piece is currently un stretched. After it is placed on wooden stretcher bars the final size will be 24"x35".
In the Pink 30"x30" original color field abstract painting by Victoria Kloch
On Saturday I received a request for a custom painting of one of my most recent paintings 'In the Pink'. This project will be to create two smaller oblong pieces to run horizontally 20"x48" across. Here you can get an idea by using Photoshop what the overall paintings will look like though the actual recreation will have it's own unique story by using the same color palette and technique.
Below - the finished re-created commission paintings In the Pink. 20"x48"
This set was commission years ago. I came across this when I was going through my files and
I really loved this piece. The painting on the left is 24"x24" the right is 24" x36".
Below they have been installed in their home. What a great room, don't you think?
In the Pink - color field painting by Victoria Kloch 30"x30"
Color field painting is a way to express emotions. It is pretty much a given that the use of color choices influence the way the eye interprets that emotion. If you are a painter you have experienced and no doubt remember how you felt at the time spent with each of your paintings. I remember so clearly the quiet, gentle air of that day. No pressure or expectations of the final outcome. Purely in the moment with this. With a squeegee and white paint I was in the zone of discovery uncovering pink and siennas underneath with a side to side horizontal movement.
Hand and mind connected to reveal something sweet.
Zen Perceiving the Bull - 50"x50" acrylic on un- stretched canvas
When painting this piece it was initially a huge struggle. So much so I have two paintings underneath of what you see here. It was building up a lot of texture for sure. It was only when I lost myself and finally got to the place that it was just me and the paint it all started to fall into place. Yes, for me this has become an emotional body of work where no bull can hide.
In loving memory of Jolyon Pehrson, friend and teacher.
Perceiving the Bull (3) - taken from the master teachings 'Zen Flesh Zen Bones'
I hear the song of the nightingale. The sun is warm, the wind is mild, willows are green along the shore,
Here no bull can hide! What artist can draw that massive head, those majestic horns?
Comment: When one hears the voice, one can sense its source. As soon as the six senses merge, the gate is entered. Wherever one enters one sees the head of the bull! This unity is like salt in water, like color in dyestuff. The slightest thing is not apart from self.
What is the Bull? The bull is the eternal principle of life, truth in action. The ten bulls represent sequent steps in the realization of one's true nature
The Emperor's Garden 26"x24" color field abstract, acrylic on canvas un stretched.
For this piece I use two very different colors of gold paints and I'm crazy about how it plays with the red. For such a small painting this has a grand imperial presents. I just love it when happy accidents happen.
Tequila Sunrise 30"x48" color field painting by Victoria Kloch
It is safe to say, this is one lively composition with cadmium yellows, red, green and ultramarine blue.

A Way of Zen 40"x40" un stretched by Victoria Kloch
I first placed my background in blue. After the blue layered dried I used the complementary colors green and red. These two colors merged and melted together in harmony making a neutral that is a soft blush color. I would like to say that I planned it this way because the underlaying blue actually complements the neutral blush making this a very happy accident. For me the emotion from this piece is calming, refreshing and tranquil. It will be sold un-stretched unless arrangements are made for me to stretch it on stretcher bars, otherwise it will be shipped rolled in a tube. If interested, please check for availability. Thank you, Victoria
Zen Bones - 48"x48" - commission
Zen Bones - 16"x16" original
Strangely enough I try not to get to attached to individual pieces of work. It helps me to move forward when I can let go of these pieces and move on to the next. But this piece, I don't know why, it just won't let go. I know I have a deep attachment to structured geometric shapes and the color palette to Zen Bones brings to me a sense of calm in a soft dreamy almost misty feel. Recently I was approached with an inquire if it was possible to do this piece in 48"x48 using a warmer gray. Mission accomplished. I was so happy I took this project on to see it large was very exciting and I was able to elaborate with more detail then the smaller version. For me this piece was pure heaven to work on as it took me on a journey the helped me learn about my own work as an artist. Doing such a piece was like peeling an onion from the inside out and that is always fun.
Dancing Barefoot - 24" x 36" acrylic abstract painted with calculated organic geometric shapes situated to make the eye travel from top to bottom.
'112 Days After' is a 24"x18" ink abstract that was commissioned as a companion piece to 'Fireworks'. I had so much fun with theses that I plan to create more. I love working with a calame, a bamboo reed dip pen.
The commissioned painting made it back from the framers and installed in it's beautiful new home. 'Catalina's Light' is an acrylic 42"x74" modern abstract framed in a white floating frame. The actual painting was painted 48"x80" allowing for three inches on each side to be wrapped around on stretcher bars. There was so many under layers to this piece that I lost count bring each layer that peeks through spontaneous interest to this recreated piece from my original painting 'Dawn's Light'. With all of the thin under layers applied to this piece it looks like an oil painting. Thank you to my clients for sharing. _Love
This watercolor here is titled 'Destiny' it's a small watercolor with silver ink that I painted in 2014.
This piece was a 48" x 60" commissioned painting. My client wanted jewel like tones with gold leaf foil designed like my original color spots. She graciously sent me a photo of it after she had it framed. This was an amazing project.
Diptych, original modern abstract color field paintings, titled 'Gold Field I & II' by Victoria Kloch, gold and white. These paintings are 8"x10". Paint used gold metallic Winsor Newton and white by Golden Acrylic.
This commission piece is now on it's way to Florida. It was so large that I painted it un-stretched so it could be shipped rolled. The size of this acrylic painting measures 48"x 80". Once it makes it to the framer it will stretch it down to fit 42"x72". The photo of this piece doesn't even come close to showing the under-layering. Since this image was taken I did touch up the green shapes a bit, though I didn't have the time to re-take and up date the photo. I'm hoping once it is framed my clients will share a photo of this hanging up in their beautiful room.
With so much going on in the world, it's hard to concentrate and stay focused on the beautiful side of life. I gave up regular television a few years ago to be free of the madness from commercials that bombard us with things that they tell us we need. Now I stream all of my movies and watch only what I want to see.
Like it or not, world events have their impact on all of us. Fortunately, I have my work to bring me back to that quiet space of color and paint making my time even more precious to me.
With the heart of a minimalist who paints complicated.
